Women Empowering Women

This VR experience relays the importance of designing for social change by presenting, Behnaz Shafei, a fearless Iranian female motocross rider who races for gender equality. This experience allows you to see into her world of motocross in a muslim country where women are not allowed to compete in motocross.

As an empowering woman, her goal is to be a pioneer for equal rights and inspire all women globally. By coding this VR experience, I am able to envision Shafei's ideal world of motocross.

Benaz Shafei says:

"My goal is to be a pioneer to inspire other women. Together, we can convince authorities to recognize women's motorcycle racing" - Shafei in nytimes.com

Shafei is one of six women making huge cultural and legal strides for female motorcycle racers in Iran. These women worked hard to receive official identifications that allow them to race on amateur tracks. They can ride on off-road circuits, but are still barred from competing or obtaining licenses. Access to Iran's sole standard motocross track in Tehran is prohibited, so in the mean time, they roar their bikes outside they capital.

designing the experience

Finding an image that will relay the setting of the experience. I chose a off-road setting as this is the only place Shafei is allowed to ride.

Next step was to sketch over image, this allowed me to make the experience and alter its conditions.

Third step was to start adding in colour, images and custom text.

(Shown at the top of the image is code from custom text)

Finally, adding a custom hotspot, so when using a VR headset you are looking for the bike tire to take you to the next page.

(Shown above is the black tire custom hotspot with the code written underneath)
